One hour and 10 minutes into an IFW image/validate operation (just
started validation), I get this message: PHYLock failed to cache all
changes. Please increase the cache size in settings.

Am using IFW V 2.80, latest Phylock version also installed. Imaging
complete drive (four partitions - MAC and Bootcamp)

Of course this aborted the whole effort (color me very ticked off)!

Not sure where to attack this. Does KB article 323 apply with WIN 7?

you look in ifw.log to see the phylock error code then see
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=551

(you also need to ensure everything is clean via chkdsk /f - and you don't
want to run while defragging and sometimes indexing can cause a lot of
changes if new system). You can use VSS as well, but since that doesn't
cache everything backed up you'd have to use validate and not validate
byte-for-byte.

Followup to my post above:

I looked at the external drive supposedly being used to store the image
(in Disk management) and it is still virgin - one untouched NTFS healthy
primary partition. It should show four partitions. Don't now know what
was being doing that one hour + operation??? The image file doesn't
exist - internally or on the external drive.

With trial and error to determine sufficient size, and with the error
taking over an hour to show up, there's lot's of wasted time here.

The disk was chkdsk'd, no defragging going on, indexing has been pretty
quiet of late, but on other hand have never turned it off in my PC.

Also, is the completion error code 204 significant?

When you start IFW, click the Settings button. You can adjust the size of the PHYLock RAM Cache there. Since you've been running okay for a while with the default value I'd just try increasing it 2048 (to 10240) and see how it goes.

The backup created was automatically deleted because of the error. You can turn that option off if you want to keep failed backups (in Settings, Retain Failed Backups). There's a good chance the file is not valid, though.

204 indicates a PHYLock Cache error.

I did dry run through IFW to look at command line, but saw no difference
in command line after changing RAM cache to 10240.

If that's the case, then how would I incorporate this cache size change
into command line?
