Performance determined by?

I just upgraded to a usb 3.0 external drive in the hopes of speeding up my backup... However, it does not seem to have improved the speed. What is the limiting factor on speed of backup?

You need to plug it in to a USB3 port (look at the symbol on the port) and
you need to use a USB3 cable (they are not the same as a USB2 cable).

You would also need to use Image for Linux or Image for Windows (or BIOS in
Image for DOS) to get USB3 speeds once you connect it properly.

Which Compression setting are you using? What is the size of the image? How long does it take to write the image? (Don't include Verify time or time before getting a PHYLock lock)

I am sure I have it in a usb 3.0 port

standard compression, used disk space to be backed up is 1.037GB, time to image is 22 hours,

I assume you mean 1,037 GB. That's a slow speed even by USB 2 standards.

Try running ATTO on both USB HDs.

You should get about 30 MB/sec RW on USB 2.0 and about 100 MB/sec RW on USB 3.0.

USB 3.0 Drive = 100.7 Write & 100.2 Read
USB 2.0 Drive = 22.7 Write & 22.7 Read

So, that's not the problem.... Any ideas why its so slow then?

ok.. turned validate off and getting a time of 8 hours 31 minutes on 3.0 drive and 14 hours for the 2.0...

strange thing though... the time remaining on the 2.0 was still climbing after 20 mins and was dropping faster than real time on the 3.0... so, the numbers aren't really that good.

Try Enhanced Speed - A Compression. Use the USB 3.0 HD and let the image write complete. What is the image size and time?
