How does one mount something with write support using TBIMount

Post by Bob Coleman »

From the IFW Manual:

The following options configure context menu support in Windows File Explorer for
mounting backup images using TBIMount and TBIHD:
TBIMount - Mount with Write Support: Option to mount the image file with write
support using TBIMount. An unmount option will be available for mounted
drives.

If that option is selected, there is certainly a context menu item "TBIMount - Mount as Drive Letter" but it doesn't say anything about "with write support" and as far as I can see what is mounted doesn't have write support.

Open TBIHD from desktop shortcut or search - you get a dialog/window with the option.

it NEVER writes to original backup for safety/security - It uses temporary memory that can then be used for making changes and creating a new backup.

Reason I use TBIHD over other two option's for mounting, with temp. write enabled (not to original backup) is that when accessing certain system folder's on some OS's, you can't access/do it without the OS being able to make temp. changes to admin/security privileges + you can make changes to mounted image and create new backup image from it.

Original is never changed - more-so if you use something like TBIProtect and store images in that folder - would like to see ability to customise various backup location's.

TBIHD is best option IMO + don't worry about write - temporary + does not affect original backup.

Reason for option of write, is that it is probably slightly less secure, and has small performance loss. Generally, leave it enabled if you want mounted disk to act like a normal disk, without issue's.

P.S. Actually, curious myself as to why, for simplicity, Write enabled is not the default TBIHD context menu mount option ?

So if I understand correctly what is being said here, one has to use a command rather than a context menu entry despite the mention of context menu support that I quoted from the manual in my initial post.

@Bob - Yes, just double-click on the TBIHD Desktop shortcut (or search for TBIHD - Load as a hard drive + run), and you will get the TBIHD window, with option for "Enable simulated Writes"
