Tried to use BOOTFILE with IFL, but after running shortcut, it won't boot and no partitions found now

I just tried to use BOOTFILE to boot into IFL fom file. Afte using IFL eboot shortcut, system reboots, but fails to boot into IFL, with no menu to restore MBR, so stuck with system which now has the single MBR enty fo BOOTFILE, but none of my exiting partitions.

All I see is black screen with message "Checking media", then sceen clear s and same message appeas befoe BIOS message saying "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed" - No menu with option to restore MBR

If I boot from my IFL USB stick, I can mount the single BOOTFILE partition, which has the tbosboot.flp file on it. I checked what command is run when you choose the menu option to restore the MBR...

but not sure how to run it when booting from my IFL USB stick.

Question is... How can I restore the old MBR ?

1 - set your system to boot in legacy mode instead of UEFI mode - that would do it.
or
2 - for Windows version you run bootfile /RESTORE for dos/linux you just run bootfile.

Thanks for quick reply - ran bootfile from IFL USB stick, and worked like a charm.

NOTE: Can't switch to Legacy boot on Lenovo laptop's since 2020.

IDEA: Any way to auto detect that this situation has happened when booted into IFL USB stick, and display dialog to auto fix it ?

Or, add a new menu item "Restore MBR", even though opening a Teminal to run boootfile is easy enough.

Does BOOTFILE work on UEFI system ?

If not, I have small FAT partition with IFL on it, and would like to create shortcut (like BOOTFILE method) to reboot into IFL partition, automatically restore an Win image to C:, then automatically reboot back into C: after restore completion.

How best to do this ?

The disk in question was GPT - could this cause BOOTFILE not to work ?

Not if it can't boot in normal / legacy mode. If the system boots either then it will work but for UEFI only, no.

If you use BootIt you can use BootNow to do it.
