IFW: RAM only

Post by paul_6 »

Hi,
I have 16GB of RAM. Can I run IFW, safely, without using disk storage (by untikking 'Use Disk Storage')?
Or is this an option you systematically advise against?
Thks,

From Page 52 of the User's Guide -

Use Disk Storage – Check this box to have PHYLock use hard disk storage in
addition to memory, up to the limit specified in the Disk Cache Size setting. Note
that even if you check this box, PHYLock may sometimes run in RAM mode. It's
recommended that you leave this option checked.

Further info on Page 53.

The answer is in the IFW manual...

" It's recommended that you leave this option checked."

I've been using IFW for years, and have always left it checked.

I have had to increase the cache size along the way, as images have gotten larger.

Your free to try it, you'll have to bump up the size a lot.

I gave 800000K for the RAM cache size. So far so good.
Should I give more ?
Thks.
