It starts at time 10:38, for the next 30 seconds or so. You were going to do it correctly anyway.

Basically, don't be in Win11 and boot to the UFD.
Be in BIU and boot to the UFD.

A recent TeraByte post...

"The key is to always boot back to BUI then boot to the installation media (no matter the OS being installed)."

Ah... Ok, I just re-watched the video. I also just realized that if I used headphones, the volume was much better so I actually could hear what he was saying and, "yes", I got it... always go back to the BIU start "page", the boot to the OS installer....

Thanks for the patience!!

Glad to be of use.

I did lots of OS installs using the old BIU method. But the video method is quicker and easier.

Don't forget to disable Fast Start in BIU Properties after Win10 has been installed. Check Win11 too.

Hi,

I think that I was actually able to install Windows 10, BUT there is only one item in the BIU page and it is "Windows 11", i.e., if I click that, it boots to my new Windows 10 :(!!!

There is only 1 boot item... that one.

I am pretty sure I stuck by the 'go back to BIU page' rule, but after I did everything and rebooted, I tried to reactivate BIU, but that failed, so I decided to try to re-install BIU instead.

I will try to upload some screenshots in a bit, of the Boot item and the partitions, but it looks like my internet (verizon ) is down so I am on Tmobile which I have for backup.

BOOT ITEM (Windows 11):

I think that I need to:

a) Rename the current boot item and

b) Create a new boot item for the original Windows 11

I know how to do (a) but not sure how to do (b) :(...

Thanks,
Jim

Actually, I was just looking inside the SYSTEM_DRV and the EFI directory in that partition, and it doesn't looks correct. There is only Microsoft.001 and no other "Microsoft.xxx" directory.

Can this be fixed/corrected? And if so, how?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, weird.

Try this first. In Part Work, select the ESP, BCD Edit. Select the line showing Microsoft.001, OK.
Menu, Edit
Device, Edit
Choose the Partition Windows-SSD, OK
OS Device, Edit
Choose the Partition Windows-SSD, OK (same as above)
Close, Close
Restart
Boot Win11

Let us know if that works.

Also, BTW, as I was doing the re-sizing and sliding of the partitions before I tried to install Windows 10, whenever I booted into BIU, I would get a blackcreen with something like "Cannot find boot.it" or something like that, and then it would start Windows.

I was thinking that because I was resizing and sliding the SYSTEM_DRV and the Microsoft reserved partition, that "cannot find boot.it" might have been happening because BIU was looking for something, but size the partition sizes had changed or moved, it (BIU) couldn't find things correctly?

Brian,

FYI, I was starting to try what you were suggesting but FYI, when I went into BCD Edit, there IS both Microsoft.001 and Microsoft.002 in there!!

Should I continue with what you suggested above?

Pls advise.
