I've seen multiple posts with my same question, but all so far seem to be with multiple operating systems installed on the system.
I only have one windows installed. BIU has 2 menu entries one for biu itself, and one for microsoft os.
the system seems to operate fine, except when windows has some fixes to install, and requires a reboot.
At the install reboot, I get this blue selection menu that asks what system do I want to start. All entries list the exact same names and numbers.
This list has grown over that months, to 14 entries over 2 pages. I finally looked into the efi partition. There I found entries for microsoft.001, microsoft.002, .... microsoft.014. All appear to be the same, and seem to correspond to the number of selections on the selection menu. (By the way, clicking on any one of the 14 OS selections appears to do the same thing. Sometimes continuing the installation of fixes, or just starting windows.)
Someday I would like to add a Linux installation to my system, but want to make sure that I've created the first correctly.
I am using the rename option. Have I configured something wrong? Any suggestions? And what is creating these .00n items -> Terabyte or Microsoft?
With Bootit- what is making multiple microsoft.001 efi entries

not having the rename option enabled could cause that as windows creates new directories. You should double check that, also you can delete the items and choose to remove unused directories. you can confirm the rename is able to happen by after booting to windows look in the efi system partition, one way is to use tbexplor.tbs script.
Re: With Bootit- what is making multiple microsoft.001 efi entries
What is making these multiple Microsoft.00n directories in the EFI SYSTEM directory? My uefi os system? Microsoft update? Or Bootit ?
(the rename option appears to be the default, and has always been checked.)
Does Windows creae a new boot microsoft.00n entry to install some system maintenance updates possibly?
Is there a good overview of the UEFI Booting process, I'd like to understand why boot entries may need to be renamed or renumbered at all.
(I see in the bootit pdf that it does show a microsoft.001 example!)
Thank you in advnace. I really appreciate your quick support responses. Your much more responsive than any other product group.

if microsoft doesn't exist then windows may create it, so you'll get another boot item and another .xxx entry. Rename option either not working or not enabled, what is in your bootit.ini file (removing product key section)? (text edit / alt-o / you can load it), also confirm rename working as explained in prior response.
