Today, I tried to load IFW, from a shortcut on my desktop. I saw a very fast flash on my taskbar, then the little wheel was spinning. And spinning. And spinning. Task manager said it was not running.
Rebooted, tried again, same thing. The only thing the task manager said was running was the task manager. At this point, I cannot load ANY apps from any shortcut on the desktop. I CAN load apps from the taskbar and start menu. Except IFW from the start menu.
Uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted and still no joy. What IS a feller to do?
Windows 11, latest updates, no hardware changes, no new apps installed…
Since the very definition of insanity is to do something over and over, expecting a different result, that’s exactly what I did uninstalled and reinstalled. Still no joy. Nothing what-so-ever in the event logs. Is there a way to cause it to create any error logs from within the app, or is everything supposed to go to the event viewer?

Re: IFW won't load
SInce you mentioned all apps won't start from the Desktop, the issue is bigger than IFW.
You could try using Image for Linux or TBWinRE to boot into and restore your recent backup(s).
Otherwise, try restoring a recent System Restore point.
Failing that -
Open an elevated Command prompt (Run as Administrator) and run -
sfc /SCANNOW
If it finds and fixes corrupt files, run it again until it doesn't.
then run -
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Reboot.
If that doesn't work, I would do a Windows Repair Install using an In-Place Upgrade.
It re-installs Windows but keeps your personal files and apps.

Re: IFW won't load
Aargh. Once again, I didn't articulate well. The inability to load apps from shortcuts only happens AFTER I try to load IFW. If I reboot and select a different shortcut, say, Brother IP&Printscan, or VLC media player, they load.
TB view and mount both load from shortcuts.
Thanks, for the quick response.

What version are you using? In V3 or V4 there is nothing special going on.

Busy season! Glad that's over. 'Cept for the credit Card debt. Should have that paid off in time for another Christmas.
A "few" corrupts files. Odd that it only caused an issue with IFW.
Anyway, thanks!
