Article Update: The problem described below was unique to the standard IFL V1 Boot Disk, and has been corrected as of Sept 2007. If you are experiencing this problem, please download a new copy of the V1.99 IFL boot disk. While the version of IFL itself (1.99) did not change, a change was made to the Linux portion of the disk which corrects this issue.
A SIGSEGV error can occur while using the standard IFL Boot Disk when both of the following 2 conditions are true:
- The system has more than 1 GB of RAM installed and...
- An image is being created or restored to/from a mounted FAT32 partition
Typically, the imaging operation will complete successfully, but a SIGSEGV error will be displayed by the Linux shell after you exit IFL. In some cases, the error will not appear until you attempt to run another command from the Linux prompt. The same error may also be displayed if you attempt to run a command on one of the alternate consoles.
The SIGSEGV error condition will prevent you from running additional commands during the session, and will also prevent you from rebooting the system in the normal manner. Once this error occurs, the system will have to be powered down manually by using the system's power button/switch.
A fix for this problem is being investigated, and will be made available in a future release of IFL. In the mean time, this error can be completely avoided by doing either of the following:
1. Instead of mounting the FAT32 partition, use the "Save to partition" or "Restore from partition" menu choices to access the FAT32 partition directly from within IFL.
2. Use the IFL Network Boot Disk instead.
