Scheduling a Backup with Windows Task Scheduler Using a Blank Password

Issue:
When scheduling a backup task, Windows Task Scheduler requires a user account with a password. For backup operations, this account should have administrator privileges. If you prefer to continue using a blank password, there are two possible solutions:

Solution 1: Create a New Administrator Account with a Password
Create a new administrator account, assign it a password, and use that account specifically for scheduling backups.

Solution 2: Allow Blank Passwords via Local Security Policy (Windows 10/11)
You can change a Windows policy to allow scheduling tasks with blank passwords:

  1. Click Start.

  2. Type Local Security Policy (you don’t need to type the entire phrase; it will appear in the filtered list).

  3. Launch the Local Security Policy editor.

  4. In the left pane, navigate to Local Policies > Security Options.

  5. Find the policy named Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only.

  6. Set this policy to Disabled.
