I have a Lenovo ThinkPad W520 that came preinstalled with Windows 7 Professional. The hard drive has a SYSTEM_DRV partition, a C: partition, and a Lenovo recovery partition.
I want to be able to have multiple installations of Windows 7 (or 8) on this ThinkPad, all isolated from one another. But I can't quite figure out how to do this. The SYSTEM_DRV partition is necessary for Windows 7 to boot because Lenovo puts some essential files there, as well as the Windows Recovery Environment. My hope would be to use the factory restore option with the SYSTEM_DRV partition to recreate the system as if it were new, then shrink the resulting new install into a separate partition that I can use for testing new software.
Can anyone explain how to do this, or if it is even possible?

Have a look at the BIBM videos. They will give you an idea of what is possible.
