I got my DVD Drive problem solved in Win8 as described in earlier post.

I also disabled Fast Start as recommended in these newsgroups to prevent
corruption. I have Win8 and Win7 installed using Bare Metal as boot manager.
I booted between both of them several times doing restarts and complete
shutdowns and also a couple times using Bootnow in each one last night.

I didn't get any chkdsh wanting to run last night.

I was in Win7 when I shut down last night. It don't shut down. I have the
Power Button set to Hibernate and do that for Win7 all the time.

I turned the computer on this morning and it was resuming from Hibernation
in Win7 and I got the chkdsk. After it ran, and booted into Win7, I then
tried to boot Win8 and get message about something wrong with PC. The
message was up only a second and couldn't get it all.

It then restarts and wants Win8 to do a repair. So I guess I got the
corruption problem. I didn't do the repair. I made an Image last night and
will restore to that tonight.

My question is:

Do you also have to have Win7's hibernation changed from hibernation to shut
down ? From what I saw in these newsgroups in the past was that the
hibernation with Fast Start was only with Win8.

Also want to mention that I turned off Fast Start in Win8 in Win8 after it's
first boot.
I then checked in Bare Metal in Partition Works in the Properties of Win8
and the button for disabling Fast Start wasn't there.
After Win8 problem as stated above, I then went back into Bare Metal and the
disable or turn off Fast Start is now there.

I had the corruption problems when I ran the Preview Win8 but at that time I
had seen the corruption problem in these newsgroups but didn't see about
turning off Fast Start. It was also installed with Win7.

I hate to have to remove my Win7 and only have Win8 on this hard drive till
I get everything running fine and my programs installed in Win8. I also have
two other drives that are Data drives.

use bootnow with the /hibernate option if you're going to use hibernation -
better to just disable all hibernation, it's all not safe in general (sleep
is ok).

How do you use the /hibernate option in BootNow ? I don't understand.
Properties on my BootNow shortcut for Target shows D:\BOOTNOW\BOOTNOW.EXE 1
I have BootNow files on my "D" which is one of my Data drives.
The shortcut is in Windows 7 to boot to Windows 8.

Do I add the /hibernate option at the end of the above the target line ?

Would my problem come about because my Windows 7 was hibernating the night
before and after I resumed it, I then used BootNow
to boot the Windows 8 which had Fast Start turned off ?

Thanks for the info and if I can't figure the BootNow option, I will just
use Sleep on my Windows 7 instead of Hibernate.
If I do, is it then OK to also use Sleep in Windows 8 ?

Sleep should be fine for either since it returns to the same state (no possiblity of another OS being booted first).

Thank you. I read thru the link and will give it a try.

I see where it mentioned about blocked. I now recall somewhere I saw I
blocked and wanted me to unblock it. I think
it was in Win8 options for the repair it wanted it me to do ? I can't recall
now.

Like I said I will give it a try when I get things back together.

Is it OK to create the /hibernate in both Win7 and Win8 so I can safely boot
to either from either one ?

I have done the /hibernate instructions as were provided in your link.
All seems to be working fine.

After finishing task scheduler and logging off and back on, I see the
BootNow icon in sys try
and says BootNow waiting. I clicked on it and nothing happened. I then
realized I had to
create a shortcut for BootNow like I had always done in the past.

After restarting Win 7, BootNow no longer appears sys tray but is in Task
Manager in Processes.
I guess that is the way is the way it is supposed to be.

I put my power button back to hibernate in Win 7 and have it on shut down in
Win 8.
Booted back forth using BootNow a few times and also from each one did a
complete shut downs.

Thanks for all the help and appreciate it. If BootNow works fine for the
next few days, then I will
finish up my Win 8 install.

it should be in the system tray saying "waiting" .. If you hibernate and
turn back on the pc it will go directly back to that windows version without
showing the boot menu.

It's not showing in system tray. It did the first time I set it up but after
that, it no
longer did. However BootNow.exe is showing in Task Manager.

So I guess it is OK then ?

When I hibernate and then turn it back on, it shows the Post screen then
goes to "Resuming Windows" with the Windows Logo showing above that. It then
goes back to where I was.
It doesn't show the boot menu but it does like I said show the Post screen
when I turn computer back on to wake from hibernation.

I will try setting it up again using your link and see what happens.
Maybe I'll just use Sleep instead of Hibernation. If I do, will I still have
to set up Task Scheduler with /hibernate ?

Sorry to be such a pain not knowing what I am doing but greatly appreciate
