TBI View from IFL

Post by Peabody »

I just told you everything I know about Linux.

I've burned the IFL GUI CD, and used it to make an image of a small partition as a test. TBIView is one of the icons at the top of the IFL window, and I would like to see if I can extract a file from the image I just dreated. But I can't seem to get TBIView to do anything.

If what I'm trying to do is possible, could someone give me a step-by-step on how to mount the image file in TBIView from IFL?

Also, if I encrypt the image, will TBIView be able to open it - after I provide the password, of course?

Thanks

To use TBIView from IFL, it requires that you first mount the partition where the image file is located. You can do that by clicking on the "mnt" icon at the top of the screen, highlight the partition containing the image, then press <Enter> to mount it. Once mounted, that item will look similar to this example:

/dev/sda7:(20000M_ntfs) MOUNTED:(/tbu/mnt1)

Which means that it's a 20,000 MiB NTFS parttiion, mounted on the /tbu/mnt1 directory. When you start up TBIView, it starts in the /tbu directory, so you can then scroll down to the mnt1 directory, highlight it, and press <Enter> to view and access the contents of the mounted partition. From there you should be able to navigate to the image file you're looking for, open it, extract files, etc. If you select an encrytped image, it will prompt for the password before opening it.

Thanks very much. That works.

And the answer to the other part is that TBI View can indeed access encrypted images after asking you for the password.

So now I even know something about Linux. :-)

I have TBIView 1.25.

extract or copy.

Are you sure about 1.25? I have 4.34.

Anyway if you open an image file in TBIView, you should get a list of the partitions/volumes in the image. Double click one and you should get something that looks vaguely like Windows Explorer. It is slightly strange in that all you see is a folder in the "folder tree" on the left. Expand that with the plus sign or double click the folder. In either case, you should now see a list of the files and folders in the image. Right click any of these and you should get Copy and Extract options. I admit that I don't know what Copy does, but if you select Extract, you should get a dialog allowing you to select where to extract the file or folder to.

(I now use TBIMount almost exclusively, hardly ever TBIView).

the linux version (console version) - there are checkboxes you check with
the space bar, then press enter and it asks for the target where to copy
them.
