What happens if PhyLock times out waiting for drive writing to stop?

Yes, but does that mean the drive is not "locked", i.e. the image is being made including changes that are being made? Put another way, is the image no longer of a consistent state?

If the source is still locked after a PhyLock timeout, what's the point in PhyLock attempting to wait for drive writing to stop?

a cleaner point. windows used to ensure all cached data was flushed within 4 seconds, but new windows may not be the same.

So bottom line I can feel confident that the created image will be in a consistent whether PhyLock times out or not?

There may be some inconsistencies with data that was not flushed out to disk, but it's locked at that point.
