What should the progress bar look like during an image backup?

Hi - I noticed recently that during an image backup, I see blocks of high activity separated by blocks of very low activity. At any given time 3-4 repetitions of this pattern (high, low) might be visible on the progress bar. Is this expected? Is it cause for concern?
(Running IFW 64b on recently built Windows 11 Desktop w/32GB RAM, backing up an internal SATA SSD to a standard internal (SATA) hard disk)
THANKS!
/j

I would recommend backing up to a removable USB drive, and keep that drive offline.

If your system were to get infected with ransomware, your internal backup drive would be encrytped as well as your main drive.
