Copy or restore drive with encrypted partitions (veracrypt, LUKS)

When it comes to copying or restoring a drive containing encrypted partitions (LUKS and/or Veracrypt in my case), what are the settings I need to change from default to get it to work?
I usually fail, then select a few settings that seem correct and try again until it works and then forget about it until next time.

I know about 'copy all sectors' though I think the manual said that's automatic if the file system is unknown anyway. What about other's like restore first track, disk signature etc?

Thanks for any help.

See

In general, if you backup encrypted it will be raw. If able to select unencrypted partition it would be treated as normal

Thanks very much. I gathered I should 'restore first track' and change the AUTO value to '0'. I tried just changing these and restored a backup to a blank drive and it booted okay.

I also note that it says:
"When TRIM is used on a drive (e.g. SSD), unused sectors may be zeroed out. In this case, backing up the partition in its encrypted state may result in a smaller image than expected since the unused sectors will compress.

I've been setting compression off in my backup scripts but maybe I'll remove that option unless backup takes a lot longer.

Thanks again.
