How to restore an IFW .tbi to a virtualbox

Well, hello, again, Y'all!

I "HAD" a physical machine that was running Windows 2022 server that took a crap on me. Lucky for me, a full image was made the night prior. Unlucky for me, I cannot afford a new machine. It's not mission critical, I'm just an old retired fart, playing around.

From my PC, I made a recovery .iso, which I can boot from in virtualbox, but I can't see how to tell it to look on the external USB drive the image is on.

What IS a feller to do?

virtualbox has an option to make usb drives attach to the vm (it sometimes takes some messing around with it to get it to work).

You can also just restore to a .vmdk or .vdi file (existing or created by the program). It just needs to be local to the file system, so if booting windows, you can just do it there with ifw, or in linux, use ifl. If from ifl boot media, ensure you mount the location to save the virtual hard drive and use that mount path for the file.

Well, I just found out that one of the... um... Shall we say, interesting things about getting old, is remembering how well the memory works. I've several computers, with several external drives, and a bunch of virtual machines. I don't remember why, or what I was doing/looking for, but I came across a Carmela.vdi.

That's the name of the server that died. Turns out, that only a few days ago, I did a copyp2v of that system. Something else I must have been "playing" around with.

Is it frustrating to forget if I took a shower this morning? You bet! But I never have a dull moment with me around!
