Restore Full SSD to a new SSD

My backed up drive is a 1TB SSD. I'm upgrading to a new 2 TB SSD. How should I format the new 2 TB drive?
FAT32 can't store files larger than 4 GB, so there's that...
If you're going to clone or restore from a previous backup, it's not necessary to format the new drive first.
