IFL trackpad support?

Post by timg11 »

i just tried IFL 3.57 from a bootable drive. It still does not support the trackpad of a Dell notebook. It would be nice to not have to plug in a mouse to use IFL - is there any way trackpad support can be added to IFL? Either by TBU, or by something I could add using the options of Makedisk?

the next x64 version has more config options enabled which may provide the missing support.

Here is the relevant output of "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" on the machine when booted into Ubuntu 22.10 and the trackpad is working normally.

I: Bus=0018 Vendor=044e Product=121f Version=0100
N: Name="DELL081C:00 044E:121F Mouse"
P: Phys=i2c-DELL081C:00
S: Sysfs=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.1/i2c_designware.1/i2c-2/i2c-DELL081C:00/0018:044E:121F.0001/input/input13
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event7
B: PROP=0
B: EV=17
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
B: REL=1943
B: MSC=10

When running IFL 3.57 x64, the trackpad does not appear in "cat /proc/bus/input/devices".
I looked in dmesg, and nothing like a trackpad is identified. The string "/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.1" does not appear in the dmesg output.
However the string "input: USB Optical Mouse as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1/1-9/1-9:1.0/0003:192F:0416.0001/input/input7" does appear in the dmesg output when a wired mouse is plugged in.

When you say "the next x64 version", you mean 3.58, which will be released next? If so I'm looking forward to trying it.

Is 3.58a the version that has "more config options enabled"? No mention of it in the change log, unless it falls under the "Other potential changes, updates and enhancements"

Just an update, trackpad and keyboard support still unavailable on IFL v3.59 x64 on a Dell 5530.

It should have all the kernel config options needed enabled, maybe it needs firmware added. If you know what config options are needed for that system we can check that they are enabled. Send a report, see https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/kb ... boot-disk/

Trackpad is still not working with IFL 3.60 x64 on Dell 7490.

I created a report per the link in prior post. I don't see any instructions for "send it to me". Do you mean send to you by email? AFAIK this forum doesn't support file attachments

run it with the 3.60 version and email it to support@

if may be that the patform config option needs to be enabled as the others are already enabled.

CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_CORE=m
# CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_SLAVE is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_PLATFORM is not set
CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_PCI=m

Report emailed.

Please explain where and how the "# CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_PLATFORM " value is set? Is that is one of the options in Makedisk?
