Jim, even easier...

Restore your image in BIBM. Don't restart.
Click Run, osdtool.tbs, OK

Well, I was worried this was too good to be true :(.

I went through the same process with a newer image (from 2021 vs. from 2019) and it DID boot into Windows ONCE, but when I rebooted it then came up with the same old windows 4 blue squares and then hang.

I'm going back to the one I used earlier now... I actually don't remember if I had rebooted that one after it came up the 1st time, so we'll see.

Hi,

While I am waiting for the restore to finish I've been thinking/wondering: What would cause the boot of the restored image to work ONCE but then after a reboot, the Windows would hang?

Jim, did you remove all drivers before the first boot from the restored OS?

I remove all drivers and only install NVMe drivers.

Hi,

I went back to the older 2019 image and restored that, and the system seems to be stable (crossed my fingers) so far, including rebooting.

I am currently doing the Windows updates and the Dell drivers updates, which are taking forever. Hopefully everything will keep running.

Will post back.

Hi Bob,

No I wasn't able where to enable the safe mode in the osdtool yet.

Brian,

Right after the image restore, I booted into the "main" Windows and then I used osdtool to removed all drivers, then installed the iDE/AHCI drivers and the "NVME Controller" driver. Then I rebooted the system and selected the restored Windows and have been going from there.

I tried to run the osdtools while in BIBM but the osdtool.tbs file was not there, so I had to reboot into the "main" Windows.

Jim, I probably manually added osdtool.tbs to my BIBM. I must have done that a few years ago and forgot I did it.
