What is good speed for a IFW backup.

Post by JoRene41 »

Is it normal to take almost 5 hours to back up approx 560 GB of data using IFW. Would it be faster if I backed up from the boot disk rather than within windows? I just updated to IFW 3.56 from 2.99 and I don’t remember it being that slow before. Any suggestions for speeding it up would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Windows is usually pretty fast unless something is holding things up. What compression method are you using? What is the source drive (type, interface, etc.)? What is the destination drive (type, interface, etc.)?

For example, if backing up to a USB 2 drive (or a USB 3 drive that's using USB 2 speeds), that will be the limit.

Sometimes it's helpful to copy a large file (10GB+) between drives in Windows (using Explorer) and see what the speeds settle at.

V3 is much faster than V2 so you'd have to look at your logs to see what is backed up vs what was backed up before. It may be backing up raw and much more than 560G of data.
