Error Code 98

Post by tas3086 »

Here's another error.
(1) What is the faulty File/Drive?
I assume that there was a problem with the e: drive and file ... this time?

(2) and: Do not abort if you want to ignore these errors.... means ... abort if you want to keep these errors.
I do not understand this double negative statement. Abort here means to keep a backup file that has known errors? I would think that abort means that you do not want to keep the backup file at all, and terminate the current operation.

Reading sectors / LBA would be the source drive. You could look in the event viewer for any windows reported error.

{DB2E5BBB-876E-4D3F-859D-FAD967BEE27B}@0x1: (I) Search path for the Incremental Base file
{DB2E5BBB-876E-4D3F-859D-FAD967BEE27B}@0x1: (I) Is the location of the your base file that is read to find incremental differences
{DB2E5BBB-876E-4D3F-859D-FAD967BEE27B}@0x1: (I) Is the location of your other # files are also being read off this drive
{DB2E5BBB-876E-4D3F-859D-FAD967BEE27B}@0x1: (I) is the location of the your new increment that is being written to.

0xD1EB1C88@0x403: (E) Is the live drive that is being read to see if the sector has changed.
2 different drives are being read to determine if a sector has changed. I: and E: . Can you tell me what hard drive is involved in error 98?

ok, the source drive is the one being backed up:0xD1EB1C88@0x403: (E).
My script detects errors on incremental backup attempts, and automatically tries a full backup seconds later. The full backup ran fine.

What is the difference between error 64 and error 98? (my other post of an error earlier this year)

98 said there was a read error reading the sectors from the drive (check the event viewer for more details), 64 said there is missing data from the .tbi file (the backup was either terminated/killed before finished, data didn't get written, or corrupted after the fact). Another potential is if keep failed backups is enabled, then it's left there as it was and not deleted.

Thank you, an excellent response. Now why don't you put all this exact error code information in your .pdf files so we don;t have to keep pestering you about all these little annoying errors that take days to determine the origin.

Just a suggestion !
