Thank you for your reply. Perhaps I should explain why I’m asking the question. I have a Dell 3668 which picked up some malware, which Windows Defender claimed it eliminated. However, I would like to run an off-line scan to make sure this is actually the case. The problem is that it refuses to recognize as bootable any of the AV discs I’ve tried, but it boot from an IFL disc.

I hit on the idea of booting from an IFL disc and running an AV scan from a USB drive. I was planning on running that idea by the Sophos forum. However, I would think I should state which flavor of Linux IFL is running under.

It's a limited environment so the libs may not be installed that are needed. You can run ldd nameofbinary to see (if compressed, uncompress it first).
