Ubuntu install problems
Ubuntu install problems
I have read the previous posts by Gary S and am having the same problem. I have Windows 10 installed on my wife's claptop with nothing else. I want to install Ubuntu along side of it. I booted into BIU and while at the BIU menu I booted my flash drive (Ventoy with a bunch of other OS's) selected Ubuntu 20.04.03 booted it and installed it according to the video. When I rebooted, it came up into Ubuntu so I updated everything, installed my BIU flash drive, and rebooted. I reactivated BIU and there was only Windows in the menu. I went into maintenance mode and the Ubuntu partitions (/root and /home) I created are there. No menu item. What did I do wrong?

RFSanders,
Can you try this...

Re: Ubuntu install problems
It happened to me a few years ago. An Ubuntu install disabled Bit 55 and there was no Ubuntu entry in the Boot Menu. Enabling Bit 55 fixed it.
Re: Ubuntu install problems
I booted into BIU and there is no menu item. I tried to create one, but the Ubuntu partitions are not listed in Boot Edit. When look at Partition Work it shows the 2 Ubuntu partitions with the correct sizes, but just Linux native rather than ext4. However, when I go into the laptop boot menu I can select "Boot From EFI File" and it will show /EFI /ubuntu/grubx64.efi and selecting this will boot into Ubuntu.
Re: Ubuntu install problems
Bob,
What is the status of Bit 55?
Is Secure Boot enabled or not in your UEFI firmware?

Re: Ubuntu install problems
Not sure how to check bit 55. Secure boot is turned off so I can boot Ventoy.
Re: Ubuntu install problems
OK. In BIU Partition Work
Select the EFI System Partition
click Properties
in Flags, scroll down to Bit 55. Is your Bit 55 blank? If so, add a tick. Click OK. Close, Restart. Bit 55 should now say BIU Managed.

Re: Ubuntu install problems
Will do. Give me a minute to reboot.,
Re: Ubuntu install problems
It says "BIU Managed". No tic in select square, however.
