Hard drive read error with Image for UEFI, but not Image for Linux

Post by macksix »

If I backup my drive with Image for UEFI, I get this message:

"A hard drive error has occurred reading from 16 sectors at LBA 2000168808.

Do not abort if you want to ignore these errors.

Do you want to abort the operation (Y/N)?"

If I continue the backup, it finishes with this message:

"The backup completed with 464 bad sector(s) and 0 byte-for-byte error(s) encountered."

This happens while on the partition "Backup: Drive 2 DELLSUPPORT Partition (06) 1400 MiB Windows RE (NTFS)" on a new Alienware R10, 1TB NVMe drive.

When I backup using Image for Linux, I do not get that message.

I assigned a drive letter to that partition and ran chkdsk /x/r on it and no problems were found.

you can always try it again to see if consistent report of read problem from UEFI BIOS or the drive remapped bad sectors.

Are you saying it could be reading bad sectors that got remapped?

Are you saying that Image for Linux does not read bad sectors that are remapped, but Image for UEFI does?

when they are remapped the drive doesn't report an error anymore.
