Booting from USB cant see Internal drive

So i have had this happen before. You boot off a USB drive to backup or restore an image and you cant see the internal drive. On some Acer's or Dell's I had to change drive setting in bios to AHCI from RAID, backup and restore then change back, etc. to make the drive visible to Image for Windows.
But i have a bunch (21 to be exact) ASUS laptops that i need to clone from the first one that we setup as required but I cant get it to show the drive in Image for Windows.
I disable / enable fast boot.
I disable / enable secure boot.
There is no RAID/AHCI setting in EUFI

But no matter what I do when I boot off the USB drive, I see it and the external USB drive that I want to put the image onto, but not the internal hard drive (SSD).

Any suggestions please?
Thanks!

In case it helps anyone I think I found the problem
you have to DISABLE VDM CONTROLLER
now i was able to see the M.2 and am performing a backup image right now.

It looks like if you left it enabled, you need the iRST drivers from Intel installed to the boot media.
