manage EFI and GPT

Post by skipro »

configuration HP 2000 series laptop with Win 8:
Winre partition NTFS - Recovery
EFI partiton EFI stystem - Boot, EFI, Bootsec.bak
MS Reserve partition GPT
Basic data partition NTFS - main OS
a partition with no label/name [blank] NTFS
Recovery partition NTFS

I want to install BIBM, create a Win10 partion to install Win10, separate from Win8.
Can I change the GPT and EFI so I can use a standard EMBR and use BIBM as boot manager? In other words, can I change the present setup and Win8 to use BIBM and EMBR type disk?
How do I manage this setup. First time I have seen this setup.

Yoy probably can do it, but if I were in your position, I think I'd try to leave well enough alone and use BootIt UEFI (BIU) rather than go through the pain of converting from GPT to (E)MBR and legacy booting.

Either way, you're going to be fighting with things unfamiliar to you, so why not first try the approach that requires modifying the least number of things?

You can use the chgdtype script to convert your disk with Windows from GPT to MBR, without loss of datas.
