Exchange aware - full backup?

First, I am not an exchange expert but i have a client that i setup with Image For Windows on their Windows Server. They had an exchange problem and when we sent a tech onsite, he went to restore the exchange log files from the backup and said they were not there.
We do a nightly image to external drives. He said the exchange log files were not there when he mounted the backup volume.
I assume he is correct and was wondering if there is something special we should have to do or check when imaging the exchange server? He thought maybe its not "exchange aware" ?
is this possible?
Thanks

They would be there unless on a different physical drive. Even if using VSS
and it was in the files to skip, the file would be there, just with all
zeros inside of it. Only if VSS didn't map them in for some reason, but it
shouldn't do that. Depending on if you mount via windows or tbiview the
location may be difference since TBIView is the physical view, mounted can
still have some of the logical views windows provides.

Thank you. I will have to do some more research and test after another backup to make sure things look good.
Thanks for the info.
