Lenovo T430, Win 10 Pro 64.
Previously installed BIBM and Win10 [several] to SSD, no issue with EMBR. Works fine.
Want to do same with a larger standard SATA HD. Get message with install "Disk has a MBR partition table, on EFI systems Win can only be installed on a GPT disk." If I change to GPT it installs, but then BIBM does not work as boot system.
Why is this happening to this disk but not the other disk? No changes to BIOS/UEFI.
Anyway to get around this?

Out of interest, what size is the HD?

Re: EFI requires GPT
Standard disk is under 2T, 500G.
Re: EFI requires GPT
Check your BIOS has..
CSM enabled
Secure Boot... Other OS

Re: EFI requires GPT
Thanks Brian, but why does it work with SSD?
Re: EFI requires GPT
Maybe the BIOS settings changed. Can you confirm the CSM and Secure Boot settings?
Re: EFI requires GPT
skipro,
I just replicated your issue and saw this message..
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has a MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Win can only be installed to GPT disks."
I had a MBR disk with a primary, active partition
CSM... disabled
Secure Boot... Windows UEFI mode
Booted Win10 UFD in UEFI mode

Re: EFI requires GPT
Boot the installation media in normal mode and not UEFI mode. The disk can
boot in either mode, you should get a selection of what mode to boot in from
the BIOS provided the CSM is enabled.

Re: EFI requires GPT
Thanks everyone for replying.
Setup:
Secure Boot disabled
CSM enabled
UEFI/Legacy Boot option - Both
Boot Priority - Legacy first
Now I get the same GPT request with Win10 installation UFD with the SSD.
I do not get an option to boot in either normal or UEFI mode, the boot choices are:
CD
HHD
USB Lexar [Win10 installation medium]
LAN
If I change Boot option to Legacy only, the UFD will not boot.

Re: EFI requires GPT
use the DVD.
Here's from MS Site:
For example, if you receive the error message: “Windows cannot be installed
to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition styleâ€, it’s
because your PC is booted in UEFI mode, but your hard drive is not
configured for UEFI mode. You’ve got a few options:
1.. Reboot the PC in legacy BIOS-compatibility mode. This option lets you
keep the existing partition style. For more info, see Boot to UEFI Mode or
Legacy BIOS mode.
2.. Reformat the drive for UEFI by using the GPT partition style. This
option lets you use the PC’s UEFI firmware features.
You can do this yourself by reformatting the drive using the instructions
below, or if you need to preserve the data, use a third-party utility to
convert the drive to GPT format.
