This must have been asked a thousand times before, but I can't find the relevant posts/FAQ entry: how do I create a dual boot system after copying a Windows partition? I tried to do this by copying my Windows 8.1 partition to an empty partition (C: => W:). The bootmgr file, the boot and the recovery folder are on a separate partition (E:). I get a 0xc0000225 error when booting the new partition. I did try checking the change GUID option, but this doesn't change anything. What am I missing?

you need to use "update boot partition" when copying that partition and then
it will be booting that partition instead of trying for the original. (don't
use set active since the partition itself is not bootable unless you move
the SRP over to the OS partition, then both copies will boot independently -

also you may want to chkdsk /f your source partition prior to copy.
