Can't find image

Post by Ed Smith »

Made an image using IFD (GUI) version 2.97c.
Saved it to my data drive in a folder dated 08-06-15 image.
After image completed and booted back into windows. (This is the RTM Windows
10).
I go to that drive to that folder and it's not there.

The image was of the Windows 10 partition that was upgraded from Windows
8.1.

I go back to IFD and select back up and go to that folder and that image is
showing there.

Can't figure out what has happened. I also made an image earlier to same
folder and gave it the same name and going back into windows it wasn't
there.
That is why I made the second image. I saved it to the same folder and gave
it the same name.

IFD said they both completed successfully. When I did the second image and
giving it the same name going to the same folder it did not ask if I waned
to replace it.
I see only one of the two images in IFD but neither of them in Windows.

Thanks for any insight on this if possible,
Ed.

Is Fast Startup enabled? It can cause issues like that.

Fast Start was enabled earlier I noticed and turned it off. It was off but
must have gotten turned on after some Windows Updates or something. I always
turn it off when I do a clean install or an update.

I don't know now if it was on at the time of the issue or not.

I came to reply to the newsgroup again to say that for whatever reason the
image did show up in Windows after a couple hours.
That is when I saw this reply.

I bet it was as you said then about Fast Start. I just wish now I knew
exactly when it was on. It's OK now as I know I got the image. Fast Start on
too must have messed up the first image as I only see the one. All I need is
the one.

Will have to check every now and then to make sure Fast Start is staying
turned off.

Thanks again,
Ed.

I've had it turn back on a number of times in Windows 8.1. Probably the same in Windows 10 -- have to keep checking it's off.

chkdsk may have run and fixed the file system so the image showed up.
