The last time I asked this question, all I received was anecdotal
evidence, so since there seems to be quite a few new members, I am
repeating it:

I have BootCamp installed on my MacBook Pro in order to run Windows 7 in
separate partition. I create full hard drive images using IFW, but never
had the nerve to test it by running an IFL restore operation.

There appears to be a fair number of users of BootCamp who have lost the
use of the Windows partition when they updated the Mac OS, and even
though I need the update, I am not willing to chance it, without some
assurances that somewhere, someone [with same configuration] has
actually done a successful full drive restore using IFL.

Apple Tech support will not commit to any solutions or fixes if the
update causes issues with BootCamp (whom I have contacted by phone) -
essentially saying that you are on your own with BootCamp.

Second link does not pertain to my concerns, which are related to:

1) potential "loss" of WIN 7 Bootcamp partition when upgrading the Apple
OS ( I am now three versions behind, and some newer programs will run
only on the 'latest' OS). Considerable anecdotal evidence to this
occurrence is all over the message boards. While some have no problems,
others complete loss of the WIN 7 partition.

2) this then brings up second lesser concern, in that I have never
'Tested' my full disk images of my Apple_WIN 7 (plus two other
partitions) hard drive, and I am not anxious to be forced into that
situation.

So, I am looking for some 'real-life' chronicles among our group.
Maybe no one on board is crazy enough to even attempt to deal with
appleworld and windows on the same boat.

About your concerns
1) What is your OSX version? If it is 10.7 (Lion) you will certainly lose you Bootcamp... if you are on 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and later it is a gamble but could work.
2) On the Mac I rarely use IFW (most of the time I use IFL) so I can only guaranty for images made outside from the Windows Bootcamp Enviroment. They do work fine but with some versions of IFL sometimes the Bootcamp hybrid MBR got deleted after the restore and needed to be fixed with BootIt BM's partition Manager. If you own a BootIt licence I can describe how to fix in case this happens. If not... perform the following steps:

1) Boot to your OSX partition and use "Disk Utility" to create an image of the windows(bootcamp) partition (also remember to write down the exact size of the windows partition, since you'll need it later).

2) Before upgrading remove the BootCamp partitioning to avoid encountering any weird bugs of the upgrade procedure.
3) Upgrade OSX or perform a clean install of the new version.
4) After you upgraded or clean-installed the new OSX create a bootcamp partition (same size of the one you had previously). This will recreate Bootcamp's Hybrid-mbr.
5) Use OSX's disk Utility to restore the Image of the windows partition you have performed in step (1) and you are ready to go.

So, AlanD, have you tried imaging and restoring your dual-boot Mac yet using IFL?

I see in this thread a reply from TB Support where they recommend using two options in IFL:

you can use restore first track option to restore the mbr.
you also have to use the "gpt hidden from os" option.

Do these settings apply regardless of the Macbook model? (It's my impression that the Hybrid MBR was employed in certain models but is no longer used.)

images is not going to happen, regardless of any assurances that it will
work just fine. If it ever comes to a point where I have to restore an
image, then I will report to the group the outcome.

I have used a Restore operation many times with my Windows 7/XP PC, but
trust me, the first time was a bit daunting.

Seems that there are just a rare few of us (using Terabyte products)
that are half into the dark side, so if you should ever have to perform
a Restore operation, please let us know the results.

Note that I have searched on several occasions (including today) for a
SINGLE imaging/cloning utility that claims it will allow you to do what
Terabyte claims it can do - image and restore a complete Bootcamp hard
drive that will boot both partitions successfully. Not even ONE can I
find, and there seems to be many, many of them. Any discussion about
'cloning' an entire drive on a MAC running Bootcamp involves at least
three different programs (two of which are for imaging/restoring).

Now, why does no one go where Terabyte ventures? To me, that's quite
off-putting.

The options mentioned apply (restore first track and "gpt hidden from os").

However, starting with OS X 10.7 they have an LVM type configuration called
CoreStorage, version 10.10 they use that by default which means the backup
would backup the partitions, but it doesn't do anything on restore to
configure the restored partition to be part of the LVM or deal with
individual LV's.

However, you can get rid of the CoreStorage and go back to normal using
"diskutil cs revert" command (you specific the drive as a parameter after
revert).
