Backup taking very long time

Post by criticalcs »

Hey guys, I'm looking for some help. I have IFW deployed to a lot of my clients. I use it to backup servers on a daily basis. I do a full backup each day.

A couple of my clients have a LOT of data. 600GB+. I am doing a FULL Backup to a USB 3.0 drive, including verify. The backup for one client is literally taking 15-16 hours to complete. This interferes with their work day.

Is there any advice you can give me to SPEED this up?

I don't know how much you can gain, but it you haven't already, try some of the choices under Compression if using the GUI. If using a command line see the roughly equivalent /comp:n option (page 151 in latest IFW manual).

Consider taking a full backup periodically (say in the weekend or
other quiet period) and change-only backups (diff or incr) at other
times.

Setting the 'Speed up change-only backups' option will further reduce
the time taken for change-only backups.
