Restoring an image i4w

I am inexperienced with this type of backup recovery system.

I insert CD > etc > asks for path for backup location.

Have I misunderstood here - I must keep a pen & paper record of my backup images location paths to type in at appropriate point during initiating restore commands?

Can I navigate to the HDD > folder > backup image?

I'm not sure what you are seeing. What are you running to do the restore? Where is your backup image? On hard disk or CD/DVD?

I use at various times IFW, IFD, and IFL to perform restores. I'm always able to select the backup image from the GUI.
