Thank you all, I now have the GUI version and it works every time. Just boot from the CD.
Probably better than from within Windows anyway.

I have the "mouse" version of IFD and it works every time!
Seems that something in Windows causes my previous problems. Prpbably better anyway to have a backup done while Windows is not running.

IFL may work well, too. Just use makedisk.exe to create your
bootable media.

Here, if write-behind-caching is enabled for the TBI disk, The file is not complete until like 4 seconds after Image ends.

Apparently, caching is not used in DOS, so under DOS, the completion is immediate.

I'll add that this caching cuts my backup time in half. (The disk writing overlaps the compression.)
