If I create an IFL boot disc with BIBM serial key pre-loaded, it will boot one of my HP notebooks but not both. One of the notebooks just fails to boot. Of course, to make that disc, I have to choose "Custom Settings" from the product build dialog box. However, I don't select any of the available options in the dialog boxes that come after that. I only enter my IFL serial and my BIBM serial.

However, if I choose "Default Settings" from the product build dialog, it makes a disc that boots both HP notebooks. However, as you know, I must then manually enter the BIBM serial if I choose to launch BIBM after booting to that disc.

Both HP notebooks have an InSyde BIOS.

Any idea what is different between "Custom Settings" and "Default Settings" when the bootable disc is created? As I said, I don't choose any of the options in either case. I only choose "Custom Settings" because that's the only way to be able to enter the BIBM serial key during disc creation.

Just click on 'custom settings' and the next few screens will show the
options on offer. You will not be doing anything bad by seeing for
yourself.

If I am offered a custom setting for *anything*, I always pick it.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I presumed there should be no meaningful difference, but there obviously is a difference of some sort. I am here because I thought that difference might only be detectable or obvious to the coders who created the software. I'm here to see if anyone has overcome the same problem or if someone has insight that might guide me toward a workaround.

On that one particular HP notebook, there is no error message. The computer detects that a bootable optical disc is in the drive because it hangs there and won't pass the boot process to the OS on the hard drive. During that "hang", there's just a blank, black screen with a blinking cursor. The internal DVD drive is spinning but the boot process does not ensue. I've given it as much as 20 minutes in real time to move onward. It does not. The notebook must be expecting a boot process, however, because it doesn't move on to boot from the hard drive.
