Error message when booting with IFD Boot Disk
I've made an IFW backup image of my PC's hard disk drive. Its backed up to an external HDD connected by USB2.0 plug. I've created a IFD boot disk but when I test booting from it I get this: "No backups found - Please ensure you have the drive with your backups plugged in". The external HDD is plugged in. Assistance please.

Re: Error message when booting with IFD Boot Disk
Go into IFD Settings and disable "Simple Operations" mode. Or create a new IFD boot disk with that option unselected. Otherwise, if using that mode, it's possible that IFD is not seeing the USB drive.

My suggestion is to also check using IFL with Networking.
In my case, I use the CUI version.
I would need to unplug yhe USB mouse on my laptop to use GUI.
The only thing I add or change when using makedisk.exe is the install
code when asked for it.

Re: Error message when booting with IFD Boot Disk
Boot with the drive attached so it shows up as a BIOS drive, otherwise
create an Image for Linux (or TBWinRE (button in IFW simple mode to do
that)/TBWinPE type) boot disk. In simple mode, IFD isn't going to directly
access all the USB drives, it will use BIOS drives.

Re: Error message when booting with IFD Boot Disk
Sorry but this is all gobbly-goop to me. I'm not am experience IT nerd, I'm just a simple computer user. Terms like BIOS, Linux, TBWinRE mean nothing to me and nor should they. I don't have Linux for Windows, I did not use Simple mode, I don't want to read a 288 page manual I just want to Backup my system. If your process requires IT skills, simple as they may be, then your software is not for me and I seriously regret buying it.

RESPONSE: THE OPTION IS "UNSELECTED" (BY DEFAULT) AND THUS NATURALLY "DISABLED". MY BOOT DISK WAS CREATED WITH SIMPLE OPERATIONS UNSELECTED/DISABLED.

RESPONSE: I DON'T HAVE IFL. WHY SHOULD I, JUST TO CREATE A BOOT DISK.

WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT! MAYBE I WOULD BE BETTER TO UPGRADE TO WIN7 WITH ITS OWN BACKUP OPTIONS RATHER THAN THIS CRAP!!!

Actually, you do. It's part of the package you bought. IFL is often a more appropriate choice when dealing with external HDs and I suggest you make a boot disk using default settings.

THANKS BRIAN, MY MISTAKE. HOWEVER I NOW HAVE A WORKABLE BOOT DISK. HOW? I INSTALLED IFW ON TO MY NOTEBOOK
RUNNING WIN8.1 AND AS PART OF THE INSTALL I MADE A BOOT DISK. RUNNING THE SAME BOOT DISK ON THE OFFENDING PC RUNNING
XP AND VISTA ON SEPARATE PARTITION IT WORKS!
HOWEVER THE SAME BOOT DISK DOES NOT WORK ON THE NOTEBOOK EVEN THOUGH THE NOTEBOOK MADE THE BOOT DISK. TO BOOT UP IN DOS AT
START UP, I HAVE TO HIT <F11> TO BRING UP THE BOOT MENU. BUT UPON SELECTING THE CD/DVD DRIVE (IT SPINS UP) BUT STILL OPENS IN WINDOWS.
ANY IDEAS? THANKS.
EDIT: I'VE MADE BOOT DISKS WITH BOTH THE GUI AND CUI OPTION BUT NO GOOD WITH ANY OF THE AVAILABLE RES. CHOICES WHEN BOOTING UP WITH THEM.

Use image for Linux instead of Image for DOS otherwise you have to disable
Safe Boot on the system. See
