When creating a CD with IFD on it using MakeDisk, immediately after accepting the licence agreement there is a screen "Select the optional components" and a tick box for "CD Boot Image Files". The IFD manual doesn't mention this in the part about creating a CD. Neither could I find it in the guide given in the Knowledgebase on the website. Perhaps it's a new feature? Is there some documentation which describes what this is and how it is used?

It's in the BIBM manual (noted to add to the IFD manual). Those are the files needed to make the CD/DVD media bootable when you save your backup image to a CD/DVD. You can save space by not including them (e.g. creating a IFD 1.44MB floppy). With larger media you can select or not depending on if you want the backup disc bootable.

So presumably the CD/DVD then includes a copy of IFD and when booted loads IFD? Then when you want to restore the restore from includes the CD/DVD as a source option?

If you have the included the boot image files and you save the backup directly to a CD/DVD (IFD burns the backup to disc), then the restore version of IFD would be included on the disc. When you boot the disc it would boot to the restore version of IFD.

If you don't include the boot image files then booting to the IFD burned backup won't boot to IFD. In that case, you would boot to a regular IFD disc or UFD and do the restore.

You can also use an IFL boot disk to do the restore.
