Greetings,

Sorry for such a newbie question...

I have successfully used my IFL boot disk (v2.82a) on Linux, Windows XP, and Windows 7 (64-bit). Now I am trying to use it on a Windows 7, 64-bit system which apparently uses UEFI. The computer is an HP Z220 workstation.

When I try to boot with my disk, I see:

Loading vmlinus...
Loading initrmfs.gz...

This hangs for a moment (on other o/s I see a series of dots printing), then prints a screen of text. The important part of which seems to be:

'VFS: Cannot open root device "(null)" on unknown-block (0,0): error -6
Please append a correct "root=" boot option, here are the available partitions:
Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)'

Unfortunately, I have no idea what this means.

Any help would be appreciated.

The OS on the system wouldn't be the problem.

It's more likley an issue with the boot media on that particlar system. If you're booting from an optical disc (CD/DVD), it might be worth burning another disc to see if the issue is that specific disc on that particular system. Could also try burning the disc on a different system than before. You may also want to try creating the IFL boot media on a USB flash drive and try that.

I burned two optical discs (CDs) from two different computers (HP, Lenovo) and tried to get them to work on two different computers that had identical configurations (HP, Win 7, 64-bit with UEFI).

The result was the same in both cases. "Failed to read sector 0x600 from fd0" (followed by the message in my original post). Frustrating.

However, I was able to use successfully put IFL on a USB Flash Disk, create an image, and then restore from that image! (I used mode: "Partition - GPT UEFI System Partition")

By the way, installing TBWinRE on CD worked beautifully with no glitches.

I had the same problem with v2.82a and v2,81 on a HP TouchSmart 520 PC Model
520-1020. I had tried v 2.76 and it
worked but 2.82a and 2.81 didn't and I also tried making them again on a
different computer.

However my error said failure to read sector 0x600 from cdo not fdo.

I did as you did and created a USB stick using Partition GPT UEFI System
Partition and it worked.

Thanks for replying to group and telling what you did to get yours working
as it got mine working too.
