Current drive is a 120GB SATA divided equally between c:\ and d:\.
The O/S and programs on the c:\ partition (approx. 33 GB) have been imaged with IFW, using default settings.

If a new c:\ 120-250GB SS drive (unpartitioned) is installed can the O/S image be restored to the new drive.
Will special settings or parameters be requested/required? Thanks.

Are you going to be replacing the existing C: (Windows) partition or will you be wanting to boot either one?

Is D: remaining on the SATA drive or is it being moved to the new drive?

yes, is the short answer. If you want it to be bootable then ensure that is
also the boot partition (that you don't have a SRP) .. when you restore the
single partition, you can give it a new size in the new size box, you may
want to use the set active option to ensure it is set active.

(the sig on the new drive should be different, so ensure you DON'T restore
sig or first track)

The former C: on the SATA will have the O/S deleted from it and become the D: - a data partition.

No, it will renamed to E: on the SATA - another data partition. There will be no O/S on the old SATA.

The new C: SSD will house the O/S and programs files formerly on c: SATA. That's the image to be restored.

There _is_ a dual boot, but the other O/S is on an independent drive other than the ones discussed here.

Assuming the C: (Windows) partition is the booting partition (no System Reserved partition)...

Check IFW Settings and make sure "Automatic Boot Partition Update" is enabled (default is enabled). In the "Global Geometry Settings" section, make sure the "Align Partitions on 2048 Sectors" is enabled.

For the Restore Options, "Set Active" should be enabled. Then just specify the new size you want for the partition.

Thanks Paul. The System Reserved partition is on the alternate drive that has Win 7 as c:
(D: and E: will be strictly data.) So perhaps "auto boot partition update" should not be enabled.

It will still need to update the Windows that's restored per its configuration. You can, for example, have two Windows installations on the system: one using a System Reserved partition and one using its own Windows partition for booting.
