I moved the Samsung 840 SSD to a Lenovo W510 notebook, and booted into IFL 2.85. The image from IFL to a server on the LAN completed without errors.

So there is something about the hardware of the Gigabyte system. It can't be Windows drivers because IFL running on the Gigabyte motherboard still fails.

I checked in the BIOS, and there are no settings for "Tweaking" the SATA ports that I noticed. The BIOS settings are for AHCI mode for the motherboard SATA Ports, and Native Mode enabled.

If you have a spare SATA adapter, you could add it and see if it's a
conflict of the chipsets with that issue I mentioned earlier (not done
xfering data before its reported that it's done). Other than that, it
seems to be something in the memory subsystem somewhere?

The motherboard does have 6 SATA ports on the ICH9, and two additional SATA ports on a separate controller (Gigabyte SATA).

I changed the GSATA ports to AHCI in the BIOS, and moved the SSD to the GSATA ports. Windows Bluescreens when it tries to boot.

My Toshiba SSD drive has arrived so I'm going to image copy the Samsung 840 (using the laptop) and see if the Toshiba can get along with the Intel SATA ports.

I imaged the Samsung SSD to the Toshiba SSD in the Lenovo W510 notebook. I installed the Toshiba in the Gigabyte system and verified it booted back to Windows 7.

I then ran IFW to perform a test backup. At 43 seconds into the backup, Windows locked up hard. No blue screen, just no response, no mouse, etc.

I'm now running IFL from the gigabyte system to see if it is a Windows issue or still something with the SATA hardware.

I ran IFL to image the Toshiba SSD on the Gigabyte motherboard using both the ICH9 SATA ports and the Gigabyte SATA ports. I configured the ports in the BIOS as IDE mode, AHCI mode, and RAID mode (non RAID disk). I get byte for byte failures in all cases.

I have purchased new memory, a new SSD drive, and tried every BIOS setting available. Yet the either SSD seems to be unable to work with the widely used ICH9 SATA ports. WHY???

Wow - now IFL is unable to successfully image the hidden C: partition on mechanical hard drive (ST31000528AS) that has been imaging perfectly every three days for several years! It is now giving the same byte for byte failures.

Something else is going on here, but what???

could be L2 cache is acting up on you? or something in the memory
subsystem? interference from power supply? but it seems to be in the
hardware.

I have reconfigured everything in the system back to exactly how it was before I started the SSD upgrade. All BIOS settings to Legacy IDE, with only the two mechanical drives connected (SSD disconnected entirely).

I'm still getting byte comparison errors in IFL.

Is there _anything_ else that could cause byte for byte verification errors? This system has been extremely reliable, and I would really prefer to avoid a full system rebuild at this time.

Comparing logs shows a single bit error:
