Is there a specific problem you're having when running TBWinRE? Usually, it's just a case of running the script, selecting option 1, and then letting it finish (often just a minute or so).

Mark,

I have 2.87.
Is your drive GPT as Paul mentioned?

When you upgrade, you should upgrade your boot disk as well.

OK...I'll do my very best to stay calm.

I've been a user of (and recommended) multiple Terabyte products for a very,
very long time - I don't expect to have to read the manual with every
release. I guess I've been lucky in past decade or so, as I haven't always
read the release notes either.

Page 46 of the manual basically says that backward compatibility may be
broken with any release going forward:

"Backwards Compatible - Current versions of Image for Windows may use a TBI
format that is not compatible with prior versions.... "

Clearly between, as shown by the difference between the screenshot in the
manual, and the screen shot of 2.87 I posted above, the compatibility button
disappeared from the GUI in 2.87.

You broke my backup. You've said that this may happen arbitrarily with any
future release. Running TBwinRE with every release isn't fun. I could have
been subjected to a lot of additional pain had I not used Windows built-in
system image as well as IFW (rebuild OS from scratch, reinstall IFW, restore
recent backup). Your release quality check somehow lost the compatibility
button in 2.87.

I have loved your products, but these are serious problems that challenge my
faith in your ability to do the Right Things going forward.

Feel free to contact me if I can provide any further input.

This is a Win 8.1 tablet. It would not boot stating that a critical driver did not load.
The only thing I've been able to do to recover is enter the windows recovery environment.

I understand - your advice would be to update the TBwinRE with any new release of IFW.
Is it safe to assume that any new version of IFW can at least read a backup made with any prior version??

Brian K - Here's a capture of what Disk Management tells me about my Disk & Partitions.
This is a 64M eMMC SSD. Clearly C: is NTFS. I'm not sure what the EFI System partition nor Recovery Partitions are.

The key point is I don't do this every day.

I did do this yesterday for the second time since getting this tablet in November.

I had to walk through the instructions to refresh my brain cells.
Then I had to edit the script with my license info and run the script, which failed because of path issues.
Edit the script again to fix the path issues. Success.

Not my idea of fun. I just want stuff to work without a lot of overhead.

Mark,

Thanks for the info. My wife has a Win8.1 tablet. 32-bit. UEFI. I've restored the OS partition a few times using a USB TBWinRE. Easy.

IFL doesn't load on my wife's tablet. Apparently the Atom processor isn't supported. Does IFL work on your tablet? It's the easiest boot disk to make.

Some light reading about UEFI partitions...

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows ... 63525.aspx

You could have more partitions that aren't showing in Disk Management. Run TBOSDT as an Administrator and enter this line...

list hd 0 /f /u /a=2048

Correct, within the same major version number (e.g. v2).

If you don't have IFW installed at the default location it does make it more complicated because the "new" script will not have it. You shouldn't have to edit imagew.ini with the key info every time, though.

Yes, for the same major release.
