Re: TBWinRE license Problem /execution Problem

Post by TDC999 »

Hi, sorry for not posting, i have been very busy the last 2 days. O.K so to answer some of your questions:
with Enhanced Speed A the size of The Backup from Partition C and D (78,3 GB) is 44 GB (both are the values shown in Windows).
I copied the entries from the log, regarding the validation times. I tested a year ago or so and simple validation was about 2min for 40GB (original size of Partition no the compressed file size). In the logs one can see that this is now up to 26min for approx. 80GB

The Backup itself takes about 30min

Edit: to reduce information overload i just left the last entries of the log where the mentioned differences can be seen:

the result for backup in running windows is:
approx 15min without validation

So that strongly advocates that its a problem with drivers i assume. So i will test with drivers later....

Hi Paul,

just want to tell you how this went further. I got more and more errormessages "with partition not found".
the last time it worked, was:

That and some other oddities about my usb-ports led to a Dell technician comming in today swapping the motherboard. All USB ports are now running fine and as hell, but i keep getting the messages with the "partition not found". Did i change something, i don`t know, but what am i overlooking here??

I checked this with my usual USB 3.0 external harddrive.
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B008JJL ... ge_o03_s00&
tag=comput0d-21

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00FFE0 ... omput0d-21

and another USB 2.0 one - same result. What is so crazy about it is, that the are running absolutely normal in Windows and that it was already working with IFW. What am i overlooking?

2 Years ago i bought IFW and my goal was to make cold stage images. I never really had the time to put all together, till now. But after spending a lot of time with this and getting a little frustrated, should i quit my dream making cold state images? And just do them out of windows?

P.S. Thanks for your tip to use the imagew.exe instead of imagew64.exe - at least the license error is now gone. But it made me wonder if now the 64-bit version is running or the 32-bit version, since if 32-bit is running problems with drivers might occur..

In 64-bit WinPE there is only the 64-bit version of IFW (32-bit programs are not supported). Both imagew.exe and imagew64.exe are the 64-bit version.

I assume you're still using startnet.cmd. Did you uncomment wpeinit.exe (near the start of the file) so it runs? Since you're not running TBLauncher this won't be run by default (along with its other initialization functions). In most cases I've seen where disks are sometimes seen and sometimes not it's because they're being looked for before they're ready (WinPE hasn't finalized yet). I would make sure wpeinit.exe is being run. Also, to test if timing is a factor, you could put a "pause" command before your IFW command so it waits for a keypress on boot-up. Then wait 10 seconds or so before pressing a key and see if IFW finds the drive consistently.

For example (bare bones startnet.cmd):
@echo off
chgres -m3
wpeinit
pause
start "" "x:\program files\terabyte unlimited\image for windows\v2\imagew.exe" /b /d:w0@0x1,0x201 /f:#0x9CD305DA@0x1:"\Backups\CuD\IFW\C_D_-$~YYYY$-$~MM$-$~DD$-$~HHMM$" /v /rb:8

Alternatively, a method not using startnet.cmd:
In TBWinPE/RE Builder settings:
On the "Build Options" tab: uncheck the option to use startnet.cmd
On the "TBLauncher" tab: set the Mode to IFW and copy & paste your IFW parameters into the box; uncheck the "Run initialization programs in the background" option

Consistent with a timing issue, running your script too early (usb drive not
detected by OS), need to introduce delay.

See Paul's reply.

Hi,

I just saw your answer had a busy week behind me. Thanks for that (as always) informative answer. Actually i was using WinRE not WinPE:

"In 64-bit WinPE there is only the 64-bit version of IFW (32-bit programs are not supported). Both imagew.exe and imagew64.exe are the 64-bit version. "

"Did you uncomment wpeinit.exe (near the start of the file) so it runs?"

Does this hold true if i use WinRE? Or was this more a hint that i would be better of using WinPE?

And yes you were right i used startnet.cmd

Thanks so far!

Doesn't matter. WinRE is based on WinPE.

This is the same for both WinRE and WinPE. Either will be basically the same. The point was that since you're not using TBLauncher the initialization isn't being run and that may cause issues. Also, since your problem appears to be timing, having the slight delay of wpeinit.exe running may allow it work. You could also uncomment the network initialization.
