Procedure to restore only the Windows 8.0 partition?

Post by Skyglider »

I recommended IFW to a friend who has a Dell XPS 8700 PC that's running Windows 8.0. I partitioned his internal hard drive for C: Windows and D: data partitions. His drive has about 5 partitions as I recall. In Win8's disk management, there are:

1. Some small partitions on the left
2. Then the C: Windows partiton
3. Then the D: data partition
4. Then a recovery partition.

I taught him how to do a full backup of his entire hard drive using IFW. Now he has a problem and we want to use IFD to restore only an older copy of the Windows partition.

What is the procedure for restoring the Win8 partition and any other required small partitions and any MBR or boot managers required to get a bootable Windows 8.0 without restoring the D: data or recovery partitions? I believe his PC uses UEFI secure boot.

Skyglider,

In your situation you just need to restore the Win8 partition from the Entire Drive image.

In the Restore From screen select Win8
In the Restore To screen select Win8
Accept the default Options. Your choice for Validate.

So there's no need to restore any of the small partitions to the left of the C: partition. OK will let him know.

Thanks for the help,
