Bootit Partition Scheme

Post by Yottabytes »

Can anybody recommend a BootIt dual boot (WIN7 + WIN8) partition scheme that will allow me to install the program on the first of two hard drives that will also contain Windows 7 and Windows 8?

I tried creating unpartitioned space after the D:\Windows7 extended partition on the first drive to hold BootIt but BootIt refused to install there. So please let me know what will work. Right now HD0 is 240GB primary SSD with 174GB NTFS reserved for WIN8 (C:\) and about 65GB NTFS reserved for Windows 7 (D:\). Ideally I would like to reduce Windows 7 slightly and install BootIt in the free space after Windows 7. Is that possible and how much space would I need.

DESIRED SETUP ON HD0
C:\WINDOWS 8 174GB (NTFS PRIMARY)
D:\WINDOWS 7 65GB (NTFS LOGICAL-EXTENDED)
E:\BOOTIT xxMB (FAT32 PRIMARY)

"BootIt refused to install there" isn't much information and I don't know why it refused. You mentioned unpartitioned space. I don't know that this will work either, but you might try creating a 8MB partition where you want to install BIBM and see if it will install there. I think it should, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

Is what you've shown all that's on the disk. If so, I'm curious why Win7 is in a logical partition, but I don't that there's anything wrong with that.

Is the Free Space inside or outside of the Extended partition?

@Brian K. I think I may have made the free space inside the extended partition which would have meant Bootit couldn't create another primary partition. I will give it another try outside the extended and see if that will work. Thanks for the replies.
