Uefi ssd how to do it best?

Post by TDC999 »

Hello everyone,

i bought a new office machine (win7 64-bit) for my Mum, which has to firsts for me it has an ssd and second it has an uefi boot environment (ASRock). I would like now to make an Image of the Systempartion. There are many possibilities now how to do this. Which way to go? TBwinre disk for making the backup or IFL, IFU?

Comments suggestions to the toppic ssd and uefi in the light of imaging? (which are very new to me)?

Greetings to this cool forum heeeeere!

I generally image the entire drive (all partitions -- check the Disk box) and usually use TBWinRE or IFL GUI. The non-Windows partitions are generally small or remain unchanged (e.g. restore partition) so don't take up much space.

Hi Paul - thanks for your answer,

are there some pros and cons for IFL or TBWinre? For TBwinre i would have to make every time i update the software a new CD right? That would be a disadvantage for TBWinre, are there things TBWinre is better than IFL?

greetings!

Surely you would need to update your IFL CD for a new release, as
well?

Yes, but in my opinion, it's more straightforward and less time consuming to do so.

The initial TBWinPE/RE setup is more tricky, but after that it's just
a case of selecting the appropriate option on the initial menu and
letting the script run. PE takes about 2 minutes to generate on my
system, and includes my time zone, language pack, and input locale
from the initial setup.

No need to find, copy and paste the product key each time as with IFL.

You can make an IFL UFD quickly.

Copy ifl.ini to the IFL downloaded folder
double click makedisk.exe
Custom Settings
ifl.ini from local directory
Normal boot
Run List - Run Scripts Listed in scriptslist.txt
skip BIBM page
make your UFD

copy your custom BOOTITBM.INI to the UFD root (overwrite the empty BOOTITBM.INI)
copy your scripts to the scripts folder
edit scriptslist.txt if needed

Done

Thanks for the answers guys!

In my case it was very simple, since i didn't have an scripts to be included. It was just rightclick and run as administrator: ifw create Recovery Boot disk. felt 2mins later disk was done.

The only thing can someone tell why i was able to chose byte for byte validation while creation of backup, but when backup is finished i wasn't able to verify?

And when a backup finishes and shutsdown machine that means backup AND Validation was successfull or? in The log it said Errorcode 0. This means no error?

Greetings

P.S. was it O.K. to post that here or is it better to make new Threads - how is policy in this board? More "conversation style" or more stack-exchange style: one narrow question answers and then new thread?

Can you clarify what you mean by "I wasn't able to verify"?

It will complete the operation before shutting down. This includes validation, if selected. The log should show the validation if it was run. "Error code 0" is success (no error). If you performed the backup in TBWinRE the log would normally be lost since it's on the RAM Disk.

It was okay to post here.

OK, I admit I only did it once.
