Image for UEFI

Post by Walter B »

I see that the following is listed among the latest updates:

Image for UEFI V2.89 (CUI)

However, I have not been able to find anydocumentation or FAQ information on
the TB website related to this. It is not listed as a product, nor as a
download -- except in the "paid" list.

Since I have a new Windows 8.1 Pro x64 system, I am curious about whether
this version would be the imaging version of choice.

If I missed something about the UEFI version on the website, I apologize and
would appreciate a link.

Most current systems don't have a stable enough UEFI environment and if it does run it may not support the features you need.

Thanks. Very helpful thread. Looks as though IFU is not yet ready for
prime time. I have been using IFW with the WinRE recovery disk. The problem
I think I see with that is the need to create a new WinRE disk each time IFW
is updated.
I may just uninstall IFW and try IFL to see what that gives me.

There is no need to uninstall IFW to try IFL -- just boot to the IFL media.

It's recommended to update the boot media being used when you update versions regardless of the program (IFW/IFL/IFD) used. For TBWinRE/PE you can use the "Search for Updated Programs" option in the TBLauncher Tools menu after booting to check for a more current version on the system (you can also set this option in the build so it checks automatically). Just be aware that if it doesn't find a newer version it will use the older version included in the build.

You, of course, know this, but to expand slightly for Walter B, if you're satisfied with the backup process using IFW, you can continue to use it and restore the backups with IFL (or IFD) instead of WinRE.

I created a TBWinRE disc once just for the exercise, but haven't been able to find, for me, any reason to do so consistently. It's more trouble to create and considerably slower to boot/initialize than either IFL or IFD.

It's not that IFU isn't ready - the UEFI on the systems don't work
correctly - the only full blown disk intensive app I'm aware of that runs
under UEFI is IFU.
