2 GB Flash Drive

Post by Ed Smith »

I can't remember if I used IFD or IFL to make a 2 GB Flash Drive bootable
for a UEFI system and it worked fine.
I am now trying to format and use it again for data.

I tired FAT16, FAT32 file systems using BM partition work.
It just won't show up in Win 8.1 Explorer or My Computer.

How can I get this to show up in Windows so I can use it again?

It does show in Devices & Printers but I can't use it.

Thanks,
Ed.

Ed,

Can you see it in Disk Management? Does it have a drive letter?

Never looked till you just asked.
Yes, it does show in Disk Management.

It does not show a drive letter.

It shows Disk 4 Removable 1.92 GB Online.
as 2 GB Thumb 1.92 GB FAT Healthy (Primary Partition).

Thanks a million Brian ! ! !

I gave it a drive letter as you suggested and now we see it and can assess
it.

Thanks again,
Ed

Brian I sent a reply to this email but forgot to ask.

What file system should I use on a 2 gig flash drive ?

While trying to get it to work the other day, I changed the file system so
many times
and still didn't work. In computer for the properties of it FAT is shown.
Don't know if 16 or 32, etc.

I can see in BM but I have to reboot but wanted to get this email reply off
first.

Thanks again for telling me to give a drive letter. Fixed as you said it
would.

It depends on what you want to use it for and if the 4GB FAT file size
limit is important to you.

I'd avoid a journalling file system if possible, especially if your
use would involve many read/writes. I'd go for FAT32 if the file size
limit is not important. If you are using the drive on Windows PCs and
you want to store large files, exFAT may be worth a look.

I use EXT2 on my flash drive connected to my router, which runs a
Linux OS.

I use FAT16 (FAT) on small UFDs. (less than 4 GB)
