4k Sector HD Image ?

Post by JRay »

Hi all,
In the process of imaging several XP laptops/computers (upgrading to Win 7) there are 3 with 4KiB sector hard drives. Does the image destination drive need to be formatted NTFS 4KiB as well?
Please allow me to thank everyone in advance.

If they are showing 512 byte sectors then no, doesn't have to be, but it
will be unless the partition is relatively tiny. If the sectors are showing
as 4096 then that will be the cluster size.

Does the hard drive that is used for image storage have to have the same cluster size as the drive that is imaged? i. e., 512 to 512 or 4096 must be stored on 4096, etc.

Thanks so much,

Not for the file itself, but for restoring it does.

When restoring to an unformatted partition, isn't it sized as necessary
by the image format itself?
