Frys & PNY 64 GB SDXC card

Post by mjnelson99 »

Frys currently has the PNY 64 GB SD card for $32.99 including shipping.

http://www.frys.com/product/7911690

Screen shows $49.99. In cart it came up $32.99. I ordered 2 since I am
not sure how much longer I can use a 32 GB card for images.

Check it out if this is of interest.

Mary,

You are keen on SD cards. To me they seem an expensive way to store your images compared with storing your images on a USB external HD. What advantages do you see in SD cards?

Brian,
They are small, take up little space, very portable.
Also, completely separate from the computer itself.
Once you have the cards, they usually last a long time.

I have 4 ea 32 GB cards. Am adding 2 ea 64 GB cards in case my more &
more bloated computer cannot use 32 GB cards any more. I have 4.5 GB
free now on the cards after imaging.

I would probably abandon the cards if I got to over 128 GB, though.

If I needed even more space for an image, I would probably go with a USB
hard drive.

I do need to boot from SD or other media for restores. I have IFL 2.87
on a old 512 MB SD card and it works fine.

You probably need boot media for USB drives as well.

The new cards will be hooked up on USB 3.0 devices so may image faster.
It takes about 70 minutes for image & b-f-b validation now.

Mary,

Understood.

With my USB HD I resize the single partition 100 MB smaller and then Copy (using IFW) the partition on an IFL USB flash drive to the 100 MB of unallocated space on the external HD. Choose the Set Active option for the restore. Now the USB HD will boot into IFL and you can create/restore images using the large partition on the external HD.

Amazing to me that she has such small images.
Myself I use an external USB3.0/eSATA enclosure with a 4TB HDD to store
my images from 2 laptops, 1 netbook, and my main desktop PC.

Btw in the fwiw dept.....what's the biggest capacity available in SD
cards now?

64GB tops?

P.S. I would avoid Sony Cards. It sounds like there is almost no
warranty on them.

Amazon has PNY for almost same price as Frys plus other brands.
